Following a disastrous fire that completely destroyed the Sanitary Company of America foundry (pictured to the right), a group of citizens of Linfield met in Brownback Hall on October 27 1913 to lay plans for forming the Linfield Fire Company No. 1.  The object of the company was to assist people and to protect property during a fire or disaster.  Assisting in forming this company at their first meeting were George Lee, Samuel Fox, Mr. Walters and Mr. Thompson of Friendship Hook and Ladder Company No. 2 of Royersford.

From this meeting a fire company was formed known as the Linfield Fire Company No. 1.

The first officers of this company were President John Hoelzel, Vice president Willis Crater, Recording Secretary William C. Kastle, Treasurer William DeHaven, Financial Secretary Jesse E Brownback and fire chief Charles M. Bean.

The Company met weekly in Brownback Hall until December 15, 1913 when they then met in the old school house.  The first needs of the fire company were an apparatus and water system.  It was found that a water system for the town would cost between $10,000 and $12,000.  This project was dropped because of the lack of funds. An apparatus, horses and harness was offered by Hancock Fire Company for $965.
