Day four of Limerick Fire Departments youth firefighter camp is in the books. Some of today’s events included our tanker group being certified in first aid and CPR. Way to go cadets. The remaining 6 crews used wedges to close open sprinkler heads. They flowed foam for potential hazmat. Hydraulic tools were utilized to crush cans. Building blocks, cribbing, were used on vehicles to prepare the skills needed for the final day at camp. Cadets within their groups were divided into two teams for confined space rescue
Quote of the day “it’s the best camp ever” Ethan Fry. Second quote of the day. “I had no idea you did all this other stuff. I thought you only fought fires.” Ladder group
Fact, only 10-12% of the total yearly calls that The Limerick Fire Department responds are “building fires” We are so much more than just fighting fire. We respond to water rescues, industrial rescues, vehicle rescues vehicle fires, vehicle accident, missing persons, fire alarms, high angle rescues, low angle, rescues, mutual aid, confined space, hazmat incidents and more.
We fund raise and attend community events as well. When we say there is something for everyone. We really mean it.
Special thank you to Montgomery County Public Safety Department for bringing their drones and showing the cadets how they’re used. |
