June 20: We wrapped up our final day of fire camp!
All of the kids rotated through different stations inside and outside of the firehouse.
Inside the training room, the kids learned about home fire safety, including preventing dryer fires, avoiding overloading electrical outlets, situational awareness at home and in hotels, looking out for escape routes, and kitchen safety.
In the Engine bay, Norristown Fire Dept arson detection K-9 dog Wagner paid a visit and showed off his arson detection skills with handler Firefighter David Soulen. He was also happy to enjoy meeting the kids and getting some petting!
Outside, Upper Frederick Fire Company created a push barrel hose battle station! The kids had to compete to get the barrel to the other side of the opponents by spraying water from a hose. An easy way to cool off and have fun! Needless to say, this was the kids' favorite station of the day! A special thanks to the Centre Square Fire Company for letting Upper Frederick and us borrow the hose and barrel setup!
At the Sprinkler Station, the kids also had an opportunity to get wet by wedging sprinkler heads to stop the water flow.
At the Stove Fire Station, the kids learned how to extinguish a pot fire with a lid and keep an oven door closed when on fire. Then, the kids used live fire extinguishers to smother an oven fire.
Thanks to Auto Rescue Salvage, the kids learned to use the tow truck's mechanisms to flip cars as one of the stations.
After completing all their stations, the kids observed a vehicle fire demonstration where Engine 51 performed at its first "fire." After the fire was extinguished, the kids enjoyed a pizza party followed by a visit from Sparky!
We hope you all had an awesome week at fire camp! Thank you to all our visitors throughout the week and the volunteers who helped make this week fun and possible for all of you! See you next year! |
