| For Monday night training on April 27, the department conducted a specialized training on first-due engine and ladder operations. The scenario focused on the first-due engine officer assuming command in the event that the command vehicle with the duty officer does not arrive on scene first. Crews headed to the new Alderwood Run development in Limerick Township off of Linfield Road for the first scenario. Engine 51 officer took command upon arrival, reporting heavy fire. Crews from Engine 51 and Ladder 51 treated the scenario like a real call and deployed hoses, "set up" ground ladders, and "forced entry" into the involved structures. After the scenario was complete, the whole crew came together to do a debrief. A similar scenario was conducted at the old Aqua Docs on Ridge Pike after that, with another firefighter practicing the first due engine officer's responsibilities. The training was also effective for fireground pre-planning, as crews visited unique locations in the township that they would not typically respond to on a normal basis. |
