Day One of the 12th Annual Youth Firefighter Camp

June 15, 2026

On June 15, the Limerick Fire Department kicked off its 12th annual Youth Firefighter Camp! We were excited to welcome approximately 140 campers for a fun-filled week of hands-on firefighting activities!

Today at camp, campers got hands-on experience at several learning stations. At the Gear Station, they learned about basic firefighter gear by watching firefighters suit up and go on air. Campers then had the chance to try on real firefighter gear—and were even issued their very own set to use throughout the week!

Outside, the kids toured the Ladder, Rescue, and Engine units, exploring the equipment carried on each apparatus, how it's used during different types of emergencies, and the purpose of each truck.

Inside the Fire Prevention Trailer, campers learned about fire safety in the kitchen and bedroom. They took part in a realistic smoke simulation with active fire alarms, practiced identifying hazards, and safely exited through a window during the drill. Firefighters emphasized the importance of having a family fire escape plan—a vital step in being prepared for a real emergency at home.

At the Foam station, the campers learned the importance of using foam at a special fire incident such as oil and jet fuel fires and hazmat situations. Then, they got a chance to use the foam nozzle with simulated foam of soap and water.

We had a special furry visitor from Norristown arson dog, Wagner, and his handler, David! Wagner demonstrated seeking ignition sources and how he works as an arson dog.

Harleysville Fire Company Engine 89 and crew came out to help and demonstrated ground ladder deployment. The kids got to try it out for themselves and even climb up a few ladders!

Finally, the Cadet group of campers went to the Linfield Station to learn about water rescue ahead of Thursday's water rescue activities.

We hope everyone had an amazing time during Day 1 of Fire Camp—and we can't wait to see you tomorrow for more firefighter fun!
